UEFA RANKINGS: All the Italian teams; Roma joins in the ‘Top 10’. Man City still number 1, Inter…

This ranking, starting from this season, also becomes particularly important regarding qualifications for the FIFA Club World Cup, whose first edition will be held in 2025 in the United States.

CLUB WORLD CUP – With the victory against Salzburg, Inter, in addition to qualifying for the Champions League knockout stage, has also secured a spot in the Club World Cup, joining Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. The last three teams are the recent winners of the Champions League (considering the four-year period 2020-2024), along with the winner of the current season.

For qualification to the Club World Cup, only points obtained in the Champions League count, not in the Europa and Conference League. This is why the second Italian team at the moment would be Juventus, even though Roma precedes them in the ranking.

The position of Juventus, which is not participating in European competitions this season due to a suspension, could be challenged by Napoli, Milan, or Lazio. It’s crucial to note that a country cannot bring more than two clubs to the competition.

‘SUPERCHAMPIONS’ – Another important factor to consider this season, linked both to national league standings and the ranking, is related to the composition of the new Champions League with the new format starting from the 2024-25 season. The “Superchampions” will debut in September 2024 with 36 teams and a single group. In the package of innovations, there is also one more club for the two best leagues in the seasonal ranking. If Italy achieves this goal, based on today’s Serie A ranking, Inter, Juve, Milan, Napoli, and Atalanta would qualify. The situation will be clearer no earlier than April or May when the seasonal UEFA ranking is sufficiently defined.
