Tonali risks being banned for a long time. Newcastle issues an official statement

The English club has expressed officially its support for the midfielder, who has been named among the individuals under investigation by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office

Newcastle released a statement regarding the situation of the former Milan midfielder, stating:

“Newcastle United can confirm that Sandro Tonali is the subject of an investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) regarding illegal betting activities. Sandro is fully engaged in the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities. He and his family will continue to receive the full support of the club. Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to provide further comments at this time.”

It remains to be seen whether Tonali will be available to the manager against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“Yesterday, Sandro Tonali went to the Palace of Justice in Turin to be examined by the Public Prosecutor, Dr. Manuela Pedrotta, as previously occurred with the Federal Prosecutor, Dr. Giuseppe Chinรฉ, within the scope of the sports investigation. During both hearings, Sandro clarified his position thoroughly, also providing full cooperation to the investigating authorities,” as stated in a note by Sandro Tonali’s lawyers, Maurizio M. Scaccabarozzi and Marco Feno. “However, Tonali is risking a ban out of football after having confesed on betting on AC Milan’s games.
