A man known for his generous acts of mowing lawns at no cost has inspired a wave of kindness, raising more than $700,000 for an elderly woman named Beth.
Spencer, a lawn care enthusiast behind SB Mowing, first learned about Beth through a friend at the city. The city had issued a warning to Beth, threatening to charge her $240 for lawn maintenance if she didnโt address her severely overgrown yard. Financially unable to pay the fee, Beth was in dire need of assistance.
Upon visiting her home, Spencer found a woman overwhelmed by lifeโs challenges. She explained her struggles in finding help to maintain her property. Moved by her plight, Spencer stepped in to transform her lawn entirely free of charge. Beth, touched by his act of kindness, was overcome with emotion, expressing her gratitude through tears.
Spencer documented the lawn transformation and shared it in a video titled โHer Tears Said It All: โMy Prayers Have Been Answered.โโ The video struck a chord with viewers, many of whom suggested going beyond the lawn care to improve Bethโs quality of life. Ideas poured in, including installing a ramp, repairing her driveway, and adding a chair lift to her home.
In response, Spencer launched a GoFundMe campaign with an initial goal of $100,000. However, the campaign quickly exceeded all expectations, with over 28,000 people contributing. Donations ranged from a few dollars to a staggering $2,500 from a single donor.
The outpouring of support came with heartfelt messages from donors inspired by the story. One supporter wrote, โBeth, I hope you get all the upgrades you need and can fully enjoy them. This is what kindness looks like.โ Another donor, Kevin Wharton, commented, โBeth, we pray that this communityโs love surrounds you and brings you comfort and joy. Spencer, you are a true blessing and guardian angel.โ
When Spencer shared the incredible fundraising success with Beth, her reaction was raw and emotional. With tears streaming down her face, she simply asked, โWhy?โ Spencer reassured her, saying, โThey fell in love with your story. As a community, we wanted to help you get to a better place.โ
