Szczesny: ‘Inter have nothing more than us. But I am afraid of Calhanoglus’s penalties. Allegri is great’

The Juventus goalkeeper: ‘Allegri is good at managing things. The most beautiful Inter-Juve was in 2017/18, which led to my first Serie A title.

Wojciech Szczesny rallies Juventus for the Derby d’Italia: “Inter are very strong, but I don’t feel like saying that they have something more than us. They score a lot and concede little; they’ve been doing well all year. However, we go to San Siro hoping to secure an important result.” The Polish goalkeeper, speaking to TNT Sports, explained what he fears most ahead of Sunday night: “I’m studying both Calhanoglu and Lautaro. They are good penalty takers, but I hope not to face a penaltyโ€ฆ Calhanoglu is very skilled. There’s no need to study too much how he takes them because he knows how to strike penalties, and in the end, you can’t really save it.”

Szczesny doesn’t consider this Inter-Juve match decisive: “There are still 14-15 games to go; it’s not the match that decides the title. However, it will certainly send a strong signal to the league if one of the two teams wins. My fondest memory of the Derby d’Italia? The 3-2 at San Siro in 2017/18: it was crucial for that year’s title, which was also my first Serie A title.”

The Pole lists Juventus’ strengths: “Especially in the early part of the season, we didn’t play well for long stretches, but we didn’t concede goals, and then we unlocked the games in the 90th minute. That’s our significant quality this year. Then some words on Allegri: “He understands the game well, and in the right moments, he knows when to make substitutions. His great quality is reading the matches, he’s a great coach.”
