SNL mocks President Trump in a Jesus sketch — Faithful fans annoyed: “They know not what they do”

Saturday Night Live sparked outrage over the weekend with a controversial sketch that compared President Donald Trump to Jesus — but many viewers weren’t laughing.

NBC’s Saturday Night Live is no stranger to controversy, but this time, the long-running sketch show may have taken things too far — by mocking both Donald Trump and Christianity in the same breath.

In a Holy Week–themed sketch, actor Mikey Day portrayed Jesus overturning tables in the temple. But before long, James Austin Johnson stormed in dressed as a Trump parody, declaring:

“Remind you of anyone? The money’s gone. Hi. It’s me, your favorite president, Donald Jesus Trump.”

The skit continued with mockery about global tariffs and the stock market, with the Trump character claiming:

“The market died and rose again after three days… and on the fourth day, it died again — possibly never to return.”

But it was the final punchline that truly stirred backlash, as SNL’s Trump said many people only go to church on Christmas and Easter, but:

“Not me… I don’t go on those days either.”

Faithful Viewers Clap Back

The response was swift — and fierce.

Prominent Christian speaker Lance Wallnau blasted the show’s writers for what he saw as blatant religious disrespect, saying:

“SNL mocks Trump and Jesus. They ‘know not what they do.’”

Conservative fans flooded social media with criticism, calling the sketch not just tasteless — but dangerous.

“NBC really thinks mocking faith during Holy Week is comedy? Will their ratings rise from the dead too?” one X user fired back.

A President Who Puts America — and Faith — First

Despite the mockery, Trump remains a widely admired figure among Christian conservatives, many of whom have applauded his unapologetic stance on religion, family, and American values.

And while SNL attempts to score cheap laughs, Trump’s support base sees this as just another attack by liberal elites — this time aimed at both him and millions of faithful Americans.

“This is exactly why we love Trump,” one fan wrote. “He lives rent-free in their heads, and they can’t help but obsess — even during Easter.”
