Despite the midfielder’s suspension due to the betting case, the Magpies’ coach is open to the possibility of seeing the former Milan player on the field tomorrow against Wolverhampton.
After the home defeat in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle restarts in the Premier League in a match against Wolverhampton. Tonali could be available for this match despite his 10-month suspension for the illegal betting case. Shedding light on the matter, Newcastle’s coach, Eddie Howe, spoke in a press conference.
Howe: “Tonali could play”
“We haven’t received official communication from the Italian authorities yet, so there’s a strong chance that Tonali will be available against Wolverhampton. We are preparing as if he will be available, and he will travel with us,” said the Magpies’ coach, leaving the possibility open for Tonali to take the field tomorrow.
Tonali can play in the next match: the reason
Howe will be able to field Tonali against Wolverhampton, despite his plea deal and a 10-month suspension. The reason? The disciplinary action, although already decided, still needs approval from the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) before being validated by UEFA and subsequently applied to all competitions. The bureaucratic process will take a few more days, which is why Tonali will be eligible to play in Newcastle’s upcoming match.
