The former Nerazzurri player cheers on Inzaghi’s team: “I hope they win the league title.”
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spoke at the Festival dello Sport in Trento and discussed the Italian Serie A at length, not sparing taking a shot at Milan: “Our Inter was a great team, the only thing I didn’t understand is why we didn’t win a Scudetto,” said the current executive of Bayern Munich, who played for Inter from 1984 to 1987.
“In the 1984/85 season, the team was strong in every department, but at one point during the season, we let ourselves go down and dropped valuable points, just like what happened to Inzaghi’s team two years ago, with Milan winning without even knowing how they did it.”
Kalle also praised Inzaghi’s team: “I’ll start with the Champions League final, for which I was present at the stadium, clearly supporting Inter despite my friendship with Pep Guardiola, with whom I shared my time at Bayern Munich.
I was convinced that Inter could win, and when Lukaku came on the field, there were several opportunities to score. It turned out differently, unfortunately, that’s football. Inter returned to very high levels last year, as evidenced by their journey in the Champions League. This growth can continue.”
Inter has made several signings from the Bundesliga in recent times: “They took our goalkeeper Sommer; it was a long negotiation, but the agreement was reached. For Pavard, it was more complicated because we didn’t want to sell him. In the end, they paid a significant amount for him, and considering he had only one year left on his contract with Bayern, it was decided to let him go.”
Thuram is also very strong, arriving on a free transfer. However, he must correct a flaw right away: they shouldn’t lose points against less renowned teams at home. Simone Inzaghi has managed to bring beautiful and spectacular football, and I am confident they will do well. But it’s not acceptable not to win a game like the one against Bologna. Inter should win these matches. The Scudetto? I hope they can win it, and I hope Lautaro Martinez can top the scoring charts.”
