Robert Redford is a Hollywood iconโactor, director, producer, and founder of the Sundance Film Festival. Now in his late 80s, his influence continues through his grandson, Dylan Redford, whoโs forging his own creative path in the world of independent film.
Dylan is the son of the late filmmaker James Redford, Robertโs eldest child. Born in 1991, Dylan grew up with storytelling in his blood. Despite early struggles with dyslexia, which delayed his ability to read and write until around age 10, he went on to become a filmmaker, writer, and artist.
His familyโs journey with dyslexia even became the subject of the 2012 documentary The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia, produced by his father.
In 2020, Dylan co-directed Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia, which premiered at Sundance. The project drew attention not just for its bold storytelling, but because Robert Redford lent his voice to the filmโmaking a rare return from retirement to support his grandson. Their appearance together at the premiere highlighted the tight creative and personal bond between them.
Beyond directing, Dylan is involved with the Redford Center, the nonprofit co-founded by Robert and James Redford that focuses on environmental storytelling and social impact. Dylan now helps lead the center, continuing the familyโs mission of blending art with activism.
Though Dylan is still early in his career, he carries the Redford name with a modern sensibilityโcurious, innovative, and committed to meaningful work. And while Robert Redford may have stepped away from acting, his legacy lives on in the next generation, both onscreen and behind the camera.
