Richard Gere officially leaves USA for Spain at 75. Why did the actor made this move so late in his life?

Richard Gere, the iconic star of Pretty Woman, is widely regarded as Hollywood royalty. At 75 years old, his decision to leave the United States might seem surprising, but itโ€™s a heartfelt choice driven by love and family. Gere recently sold his $16 million Connecticut estate, announcing plans to move to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two young sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4.

For Gere, this move is about giving back to his wife. Alejandra, 41, has spent the past six years in the U.S. adjusting to Gere’s world, and now it’s her turn to be closer to her roots. “For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture,” Gere explained earlier this year. “She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers.”

The allure of Spain isnโ€™t just about Alejandraโ€™s connection to the countryโ€”itโ€™s also a place Gere admires deeply. In an interview with Vanity Fair Spain, he shared his admiration for the culture, saying:

“I love Spain, and I think your lifestyle is fabulous. The food is extraordinary, and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy.” Despite this exciting new chapter, Gere plans to maintain a home near New York to ensure he can still visit the U.S. when needed.

A Love Story Built on Connection

Gere and Alejandraโ€™s love story began in 2014 in the picturesque town of Positano, Italy. At the time, Gere was still married to his second wife, Carey Lowell, with whom he shares a 24-year-old son, Homer. Prior to that, he had been married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995.

Alejandra described their first meeting as a moment of undeniable connection. โ€œOur karma was attracted the moment we saw each other,โ€ she told Hola magazine. While their 34-year age gap raised eyebrows, Alejandra expressed how their bond transcended such challenges. โ€œWhen thereโ€™s such a strong karmic energy, the problems disappear,โ€ she said.

The couple married in 2018 and have kept much of their relationship private, only occasionally sharing special moments online. On Gereโ€™s 75th birthday, Alejandra posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, reflecting on their life together.

โ€œAfter 11 amazing years together, it still feels like the day we first met,โ€ she wrote. โ€œThe journey weโ€™ve shared, the beautiful family weโ€™ve built, and the memories weโ€™ve created are more than I could have ever dreamed of.โ€

A New Chapter Ahead

As Richard Gere begins this new chapter in Spain, he does so with a focus on family, love, and embracing the adventure of life in a new country. His decision underscores the deep bond he shares with Alejandra, proving that even a Hollywood icon is willing to leave the spotlight for the people who matter most.
