Press secretary Leavitt shares rare childhood photos and reveals she feels ‘guilty’ about her life

Karoline Leavitt, the youngest-ever White House Press Secretary, has opened up in a rare and heartfelt interview, giving the public a personal glimpse into her life outside the political spotlight.

Speaking candidly about motherhood, family values, and faith, Leavitt offered a refreshingly vulnerable look at her journey, from small-town roots in New Hampshire to the national stage in Washington, D.C.

In an exclusive sit-down with the Christian Broadcasting Network, the 27-year-old press secretary shared her emotional experience balancing a high-pressure political role with the demands of being a first-time mother.

Leavitt gave birth to her son, Niko, in July 2024. Since then, sheโ€™s been navigating the challenges that come with raising a child while maintaining one of the most visible roles in American politics.

โ€œI spend every second that I possibly can with my son when I’m home on weekends and evenings,โ€ Leavitt shared. โ€œI try to make it home for bedtime as much as I can throughout the week.โ€

Leavitt and her husband, prominent real estate investor Nicolas Riccio, 60, tied the knot in January 2024. Their 32-year age difference has sparked public curiosity and media headlines, but the couple has remained focused on their family life.

From New Hampshire to Washington

Leavittโ€™s work ethic and resilience didnโ€™t develop overnight. They were instilled in her from an early age while growing up in a hardworking, blue-collar family in New Hampshire. Her parents, whom she credits with shaping her values, set a powerful example of dedication and perseverance.

โ€œI think that value of hard work and determination and drive was instilled in me at a very young age, just by watching my parents work so hard to earn a living,โ€ she recalled.

A recently shared childhood photo offers a charming look at her early yearsโ€”featuring a young Karoline smiling proudly while baking cookies in the kitchen, wearing a Pillsbury Doughboy oven mitt. Itโ€™s a snapshot that captures the warmth of her upbringing and the foundation of love and humility that continue to guide her.

Leavitt also spoke about her athletic background, which played a significant role in her development. She earned a softball scholarship to Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshireโ€”a stepping stone that she believes helped prepare her for the intense world of politics.

The Guilt of Being a Working Mother

Despite her impressive accomplishments, Leavitt admitted that she, like many working mothers, struggles with feelings of guilt when her job pulls her away from home.

โ€œI think every working mother understands the demands,โ€ she said. โ€œNo matter where you are, what you’re doing, there is a sense of guilt.โ€

These sentiments resonate with countless women balancing career and motherhood, making her story all the more relatable despite her high-profile status.

Before her appointment to the White House, Leavitt served as the National Press Secretary for Donald Trumpโ€™s 2024 presidential campaign. Her political career took off after a setback in 2022, when she ran unsuccessfully for Congress. However, she sees that loss as part of a greater plan guided by faith.

โ€œGod knew what he was doing, I believe,โ€ Leavitt said. โ€œYou just have to trust the process and trust that Heโ€™s working in your life, and stay grounded in your faith throughout the way.โ€

Today, Karoline Leavitt continues to balance her rising political career with a strong sense of identity rooted in family, faith, and perseverance.
