The AC Milan coach after the draw with Salernitana: “We still have a lot of work to do to become a great team.”
Stefano Pioli didn’t hide his disappointment at the end of the draw against Pippo Inzaghi’s team: “A match that leaves a regret in our mouth, as it happened many times this season already – were the words of the Rossoneri coach on Dazn after the 2-2 draw with Salernitana.
“The most difficult thing today was to break the deadlock, and we did that, but then we made mistakes that we can’t afford to make at this level. We managed to come back in the game, but this wasn’t the performance we wanted. These situations are repeating too often, now our mentality is going to be crucial. We need to keep more attention and intensity during the games. These are all things that cost us dearly; we’re looking for enthusiasm and confidence, but we end up losing them.”
“The only positive thing was bouncing back and getting one point while trying to win it until the end. We should have scored 4-5 goals, but if you can’t, it’s because something more is needed. We still have a lot of work to do to become a great team.”
The team lacked the ruthlessness to settle matters immediately after taking the lead, controlling the game doesn’t mean just passing the ball around, you need to create chances, and you need to create a lot of them. Now we have complicated our lives further.
Injuries? It’s hard to explain; there are really many. Tomori was in good shape; it’s a problem we need to address quickly. Have we changed anything in terms of preparation? We’re putting in everything we have in terms of preparation, individual work, care… At the moment, however, it’s not yielding the results we hoped for.”
