Pioli after Lecce draw: ‘I am absolutely not satisfied. We should have won 3-0’

The Rossoneri coach after the draw in Lecce: ‘We conceded a goal that was equal and identical to the one against PSG.’

Stefano Pioli cannot be happy with the draw in Lecce, which risks further complicating the race for the Scudetto. “I am absolutely not satisfied. In the second half, we played with a frenzy that does not characterize us. We should have controlled the game and managed the ball better,” stated the Rossoneri coach.

“We managed the ball too little, gave space to the opponents, and they punished us. We conceded an identical goal from a corner, just like on Tuesday against PSG. These are mistakes that we are paying dearly for.”

Milan’s main fault is not capitalizing on the chances to go 3-0 up. “There were opportunities to close the game; 3-0 probably would have sealed the match. Unfortunately, once again, we failed to win a game that we could have won.”

Regarding the conditions of Leao and Calabria, who exited early: “Calabria and Leao had small injuries, both to be evaluated. I chose Musah over Florenzi because he was more suitable for the level of pace and speed against the only Lecce player who could create difficulties for us in these situations.”

Milan can not keep up for 90 minutes? “We need to work on it; we are losing points that penalize us in the standings and distance us from the top. It’s normal that when you see matches slipping away, thinking, mistakenly, that you have them under control, you can lose some lucidity: it shouldn’t happen, but it happened in the end.”

Milan melted away once Sansone scored? ” We are making mistakes of frenzy and clarity that prevented us from winning two games we could have won. Going ahead by two goals in almost two consecutive matches and failing to secure them is disappointing and penalizing.”

A positive note is Reinders, who finally scored a goal in Serie A. “He has excellent timing in his insertions. He is a technical and intelligent player who must be effective in the offensive zone. Today he did that and could have scored more goals. He absolutely has to continue like this because he is a player of great quality.”
