The club is hunting down those responsible through camera footage. Director General Collavino: “A ban has a limited duration; we want to ban them forever. We are a multi-racial and multi-ethnic club.”
Udinese has already made a decision: it will ban for life those responsible for racist insults towards Mike Maignan from its stadium, regardless of the authorities’ decision. Udinese’s Director General, Franco Collavino, explains what has transpired in the last 24 hours and what will happen soon:
“We are determined to identify the culprits, likely two or three individuals. There were no audible chants noticed by the referee or the authorities. It’s the actions of a few, but that’s serious enough. We’ve started reviewing stadium camera footage; with over 300 cameras inside and outside Bluenergy Stadium, there’s a lot of work to do in a short time.”
Udinese is working with the police to identify the responsible individuals but has already decided: “A ban has a limited duration; the club can decide to exclude a fan from a stadium for a longer period. We will work to exclude them from the stadium forever, for life.“
MULTIETHNIC CLUB
Collavino wants to clarify and defend the club and the city: “Udinese is obviously regretful, is in solidarity with Maignan, and condemns any form of racism, as per the club’s DNA. We have always been multi-racial and multi-ethnic. After the Bosman ruling, Udinese has been known for assembling a team with players of diverse nationalities, and for this. We are an example of inclusion and tolerance, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region also upholds these principles. Notably, the governor and the mayor have expressed their support.
