OFFICIAL: Sousa sacked, Filippo Inzaghi is the new Salernitana coach

The 50-year-old from Piacenza takes the place of the Portuguese coach, who pays for Sunday’s defeat against Monza and the second-to-last position in the standings.

No wins, 3 draws, 4 goals scored, and 17 conceded: these are the statistics of the team that stands second-to-last in the Serie A standings. Salernitana becomes the second Serie A team to change their coach after Empoli.

Paulo Sousa is out, and Filippo Inzaghi is in, according to the official club statement: “U.S. Salernitana 1919 announces that an agreement has been reached with Mr. Filippo Inzaghi, and he will soon take over as the head coach of the first team.

THE CHANGE

The Campanian club has decided to take action after the disappointing defeat against Monza on Sunday (3-0), a match in which the team appeared to be in complete disarray despite their precarious position in the standings. Sousa’s departure had been looming for a few days, and now Inzaghi, who recently managed Reggina in Serie B, has signed a contract until next June, lasting until the end of the season.
