ROME – A departure that seemed unthinkable just a few weeks ago has now become a reality: Nemanja Matic is leaving Roma to join Rennes, much to the disappointment of the Giallorossi fans who had held him dear.
Roma’s Statement, was made by Roma itself through a rather ‘cold’ post on social media: “Official: Nemanja Matic has been transferred to Stade Rennais FC.” A few additional words and a customary phrase followed on the club’s website, where they “wish the player all the best for his future endeavors.”
Naturally, the tone was quite different in Rennes’ announcement, marked by enthusiasm for the arrival of the 35-year-old Serbian midfielder, likening him to a work of art. He was warmly welcomed by many fans upon his arrival in the city: “A new portrait on the walls of Rennes – reads a post from the French side on social media -. Nemanja Matic, a masterpiece in red and black (the team’s colors), to be admired until 2025.”
