With their victory over the Austrians, the Nerazzurri not only secure their spot in the Champions League round of 16 with 2 matchdays to spare but also qualify for the new Club World Cup that will take place in the summer of 2025. Inzaghi’s team has amassed the necessary points to earn direct qualification, becoming the first Italian team to achieve this feat two years ahead of the competition.
According to Sport Mediaset Inter joins the qualified teams, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City, who earned direct entry as the last winners of the Champions League, along with PSG and Bayern Munich.
Also qualified are Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense as winners of the Libertadores between 2021 and 2023, as well as Al-Hilal and Urawa Reds, champions of the Asian Champions League.
Direct passes also go to Al-Ahly (winner of the CAF Champions League 2020/21 and 2022/23), Wydad Casablanca (winner of the CAF Champions League 2021/22), Monterrey (winner of the CONCACAF Champions League 2021), Seattle Sounders (winner of the CONCACAF Champions League 2022), and Lรจon (winner of the CONCACAF Champions League 2023).
16 more spots are yet to be assigned, including 6 from UEFA and the remaining from Asia (2), Africa (2), America (2), and South America (4).
