OFFICIAL: Fagioli suspended for 12 months: 5 of those to be converted into alternative penalties.

It is now official: the Federal Prosecutor’s Office has reached an agreement with Nicolò Fagioli, as a result of which he will be sanctioned with a 12-month suspension, 5 of which will be converted into alternative penalties.

Nicolò Fagioli has been suspended for seven months following the agreement reached between his legal team and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. This was officially confirmed by the FIGC with a statement:

“The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has reached an agreement (according to art. 126 CGS) with the football player Nicolò Fagioli, as a result of which he will be sanctioned with a 12-month suspension, 5 of which will be converted into alternative penalties, and a fine of €12,500.”

Therefore, the recent rumors have been confirmed: a 7-month suspension represents a significant reduction compared to the minimum penalty stipulated for a violation of article 24 of the sports justice code (3 years). Fagioli’s admission, full cooperation with the prosecutor, and willingness to seek treatment for gambling addiction have convinced the FIGC.

Alternative penalties: The FIGC statement continues with an explanation of the alternative penalties: “Regarding the alternative penalties, Fagioli will have to participate in a therapeutic program lasting a minimum of 6 months and attend at least 10 public meetings within 5 months, to be held at amateur sports associations, federal territorial centers, centers for gambling addiction recovery, or as otherwise indicated and prescribed by the FIGC. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office will monitor compliance with these requirements, and in case of violations, will take action within its competence, as provided by the CGS.”

Is this the end of the season Fagioli? All suspensions begin from the day they are published in the official statement. Therefore, if the FIGC were to publish it today, potentially, the Juventus player could return to the field before the end of the season because the suspension would end before the Bologna-Juventus match (May 19, 37th round) and Juventus-Monza (May 26, 38th round).
