Milano is applying to host the Champions League final: the City Council of Milan has given the green light to the candidacy for 2026 or 2027 at San Siro. Now, the process involves sending the dossier to UEFA by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
The City Council of Milan has given the green light to the candidacy to host the Champions League final in 2026 or 2027. 10 years after the 2016 final between the two Madrid teams (Real won against Atletico), San Siro could once again become the venue for the final act of the top European competition.
The resolution presenting the candidacy has been approved, and now the process involves the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) sending the dossier to UEFA.
Already in the summer, the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, had confirmed this possibility declaring in July: “Gravina (The FICG President) called me to ask if we were interested in hosting the Champions League final at San Siro. There were 2 candidate cities, Milan and Budapest, for the years 2026 and 2027: We will host the Final in one of these 2 years”
The dates for the two finals would be on May 20, 2026, or June 5, 2027. The final dossier must be submitted by February 2024, and the decision and assignment of the final to the candidate city will be announced in May 2024.”
