Offcial: Fagioli’s suspension starts today! Juventus makes an interesting decision on his salary.

The FIGC statement initiates the seven-month penalty period: the midfielder will be able to return for the last two league matches, while Juventus show their support.

Beginning today, the FIGC’s statement sets the start date for the seven-month suspension for Nicolò Fagioli due to the betting scandal case. This leaves an opportunity for the midfielder to return for the last two matches of the current season.

On May 19, Bologna vs. Juventus is scheduled, and on May 26, Juventus will face Monza. Following the federation’s announcement, Juventus also issued a statement expressing “full support” and “support in carrying out the therapeutic plan.” These statements confirm Juventus’ intention not to suspend Fagioli’s salary during the suspension period.

THE FEDERATION’S STATEMENT:

Federation’s statement specifies the violation of Articles 4 and 24 of the Code of Sports Justice, “for making bets, directly or through third parties, from the 2021/22 sports season until May 2023 (2022/23 sports season), on results related to official matches organized within the FIGC (Serie A, Serie B, and Lega Pro matches), professional foreign football leagues, and UEFA competitions.” As previously mentioned, Nicolò Fagioli’s sanction is a “€12,500 fine and a 12-month suspension, with 5 months commuted to alternative measures.” This includes his “participation in a therapeutic plan lasting a minimum of 6 months for the treatment of gambling addiction” and his “attendance at a minimum of 10 public meetings over a period of five months.”

JUVENTUS’ STATEMENT:

“The Club acknowledges the official statement from the FIGC and confirms its full support for Nicolò Fagioli in facing this journey. We will provide the necessary support to the young man in carrying out the indicated therapeutic plan, and as expressly agreed upon, collaborate with the Federation in identifying the expected meeting cycles. We firmly believe that Nicolò, with the support of the Club, teammates, family, and the professionals assisting him, will tackle the therapeutic and educational journey with great responsibility. Once his suspension is served, he can return to competition with the necessary peace of mind.
