Mourinho unhappy after the win: “We need to close these games earlier. Now let’s reach the Champions League”

The Special One after the win against Udinese: ‘Today, I got the answers I wanted.’

After the victory against Udinese, Jose Mourinho is satisfied with the win but doesn’t spare some criticism for his team: “It’s our fault to keep it open; it was a game that could have been closed earlier. We didn’t do it, and then there was the opponent’s reaction.”

“Today I can’t complain, I had a full bench with players that can change the game, and then the guys on the field gave a very strong response. It’s easy to drop points in games like these; we need to close these games down, and we didn’t do it.”

“We like to attack under our fans – added the Portuguese – it seems like the group wants to set records in the final minutes. The celebration after the third goal? It was a relief, a celebration of a victory. It closed the game; I hugged a child on the sidelines, luckily, it wasn’t a policeman (laughs, editor’s note).”

Confident about reaching the Champions League? “No. We are still a team of ups and downs; sometimes I am surprised by many positive and negative aspects. If Renato Sanches and Smalling come back strong in January, we will aim for the Champions League with full strength.”

Dybala with Lukaku and Azmoun: is it a solution even from the start? “It’s a bit unbalanced because the nature of Dybala and Azmoun is defensive. When you have one, you don’t lose balance; with two, it can be dangerous. Azmoun is a type of player I love, but he lacks a little something to be a Mourinho player, especially defensively.”
