Milan struggles: It’s the 8th defence in Serie A and ‘San Siro’ is no longer a ‘factor’. All the numbers

Pioli’s team needs a strong change of pace, with defensive issues providing problems to a home performance, not in line with Rossoneri ambitions.

The uncertain home ground in this first part of the Rossoneri season is evident. Many highs and many lows. Four defeats and two draws in 16 matches at San Siro. When you are Milan, you aim for bigger things. These losses have affected the triple path: in the league with practically confirmed withdrawal from the title race since the end of January, in the Champions League a group phase elimination, especially after the defeat against Borussia Dortmund (always at home), and in the Coppa Italia with the failure to qualify for the semi-finals after losing at home to Atalanta (again at home), even after taking the lead.

The regrets of this season, evidently not in line with the initial plans, pass above all from San Siro. And more generally, from a defense far from solid. Eighth in Serie A, behind Inter, Juve, Torino, Lazio, Bologna, Atalanta, and Fiorentina. Almost all the teams on the left side of the table. In this case, the absentees cannot but be a factor, but a solution had to be found, not to risk ruining everything too soon.
