Melania Trump mocked after late-night arrival draws attention for bold fashion choice – Photos

First Lady Melania Trump returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday night alongside President Donald Trump after spending Valentine’s weekend in Florida. The couple had been at Mar-a-Lago before flying back to Joint Base Andrews and continuing on to the White House via Marine One.

As she stepped off Air Force One, Melania Trump wore a long dark coat, leather gloves, tall boots, and oversized black sunglasses. What immediately stood out was that she kept the sunglasses on despite it being nearly 11 p.m. and fully dark outside.

Photographs from the arrival show the First Lady descending the aircraft stairs before heading toward Marine One. Additional images taken inside the helicopter capture her seated by the window, still wearing the shades. It is unclear whether she removed them at any point during the short flight.

President Trump, 79, coordinated in dark outerwear and gloves as the pair made their way back to the White House grounds.

Online reaction follows widely shared images

The accessory quickly became a topic of discussion online. Users on X, formerly Twitter, questioned the choice of sunglasses at night. “REALLY, SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT?” one person wrote. Another asked, “Why is she wearing sunglasses at night??” Similar reactions followed, with commenters expressing confusion about the late-hour eyewear.

The public moment comes shortly after the release of the First Lady’s self-titled documentary, which follows the 20 days leading up to President Trump’s January 2025 inauguration. According to reports included in coverage, Amazon secured the project for $40 million after outbidding Disney, Netflix, and Paramount.

The film offers behind-the-scenes access to inauguration preparations, including fittings with designers Adam Lippes and Herve Pierre and meetings with interior designer Tham Kannalikham as the family prepared to return to the White House.

It also features reflections on her 19-year-old son, Barron Trump, a student at New York University. In one scene, she describes him as having an “incredible mind” and says she wants him to carve his own path.

During the return flight from Florida, the president was asked whether he had special Valentine’s plans. Laughing, he replied, “I better not tell you that… That’s the toughest question,” before praising his wife’s film as “a tremendous hit.”

In a brief airport appearance that lasted only minutes, a single fashion choice became the defining detail of the evening.
