The Duchess is disappointed with the recent political events in the United States.
Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the recent U.S. elections, becoming the President of the United States. This news deeply affected Meghan Markle, who strongly hoped Kamala would win the race.
Following the outcome, a royal commentator speculated that Meghan might be considering leaving the U.S. due to the election results.
Four years ago, Meghan and Harry were much more vocal about their political views, but this time they chose to remain quieter on the matter. Instead, they focused on encouraging voter turnout without expressing explicit political support.
According to Charlotte Griffiths, editor at the Daily Mail, Meghan is likely to be deeply upset about Donald Trump leading the country for the next four years.
โMeghan will be very upset living in America with Trump as president. She really disliked him on a visceral level for many reasons and has previously called him a misogynist live on television. So, she might consider leaving America because of this,โ Griffiths speculated.
Trump has also been critical of the Sussexes in the past, particularly regarding their treatment of the late Queen.
During an appearance on GB News, when asked about potential “special privileges” for Prince Harry, Trump responded:
“No. He wonโt have any.”
This remark referred to Harry’s admission in his memoir Spare, published in January 2023, that he had used drugs in the past.
“Letโs put it this way. Harry just bought a house in Portugal, and that might come in handy over the next few months,” said Charlotte.
She also pointed out that Trump had previously stated he wouldnโt provide any protection for Harry, saying:
“He would be on his own and have no protection if it were up to me.”
Eric Trump downplayed concerns about Prince Harryโs visa issues, telling MailOnline that his father “doesnโt care” about Harry, suggesting these matters might not be a priority for the Trump administration.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also weighed in, stating that while Harry was “extremely foolish” to openly discuss his drug use, itโs unlikely Trump would take drastic measures against him.
Fitzwilliams further noted that, although the Sussexes stayed out of the spotlight during the elections, they still encouraged Americans to vote without expressing any political preferences. He also mentioned that while there have been rumors about Meghan potentially entering politics, there are currently no signs of that happening.
