Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain’s coach, shared his thoughts on their 2-1 loss to Milan in the Champions League.
AC Milan beat PSG at home in the fourth week of the Champions League group stage. The PSG coach complained about how the the match developed, describing it as more reminiscent of tennis than football.
In the press conference after the game Luis Enrique, commented, “I liked the way we played, we scored early and created numerous opportunities. The only issue was that the game became chaotic. It was meant to be a football match, not tennis – it was end-to-end, attack against attack, which I didn’t appreciate.”
While the match thrilled fans, with both goalkeepers making tough saves and near misses, Luis Enrique felt it lost control by becoming too open. PSG’s star players, Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembele, missed clear chances, and Milan’s solid defense posed a challenge.
“I saw two fairly similar teams. I prefer to have more control of the game, but this game was different with both teams attacking openly.”
Gianluigi Donnarumma, making his first return to San Siro as an opponent since his free transfer in 2021, faced a hostile crowd that continuously jeered him and even threw fake banknotes. Luis Enrique praised his strong character and experience in handling such situations.
“He has a lot of experience, and a strong character,” assured Luis Enrique. “Football is passion, the fans showed what their position was regarding him. But the atmosphere can only be like that when there is someone very important. He had a great game.”
When asked if Milan can be considered among the top sides in Europe, the coach said; “Of course! Obviously! This is such a strong group that there are two games to go and all four teams could still qualify for the Round of 16. It is the toughest group in the Champions League.
