LeBron took him out of the team. Coach Darvin Ham has finally found a new home

Steve Kerr has failed to stabilize his coaching staff. So a new and very well known name is about to join him

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly considering significant changes to their coaching staff this offseason, with former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham being a notable candidate.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports that the Warriors have had discussions with Ham about a potential role. While a hiring is unlikely at this stage, it signals the Warriors’ intent to bring in a high-profile assistant, possibly with head-coaching experience.

This move could be crucial if lead assistant Kenny Atkinson departs for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ head-coaching job, potentially leaving the Warriors in need of two new assistant coaches.

Ham, 50, led the Lakers to a 90-74 record over two seasons, reaching the Play-In Tournament both years and the Western Conference Finals in his first season. However, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the 2023-24 playoffs by the Denver Nuggets.

Many changes are coming to GSW who had one of the weakest seasons with a full team

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is dealing with significant staff turnover. Lead assistant Kenny Atkinson might leave for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ head-coaching role, following Mike Brownโ€™s departure to the Sacramento Kings in 2022 and Jama Mahlalelaโ€™s move to the Toronto Raptors in 2023. These changes underscore the need for experienced coaching talent.

The Warriors also face potential roster shifts. Klay Thompson is set to become a free agent, Chris Paul’s $30 million salary is non-guaranteed and he might be cut, and the team must reconsider building around Stephen Curry after a disappointing 46-36 season that ended in a Play-In Tournament loss.

Considering a future without their iconic trio of Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Warriors are in discussions with former Lakers head coach Darvin Ham, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Although an official hiring is not expected, this move highlights their intent to bring in a high-profile assistant to reshape the teamโ€™s strategy for the 2024-25 campaign.
