LeBron James may be heading home, but his words might carry the Timberwolves even further.
Following Minnesotaโs 103โ96 Game 5 win over the Lakers โ which eliminated L.A. from the playoffs โ LeBron sought out Anthony Edwards amid the celebration. But instead of frustration, the 40-year-old legend offered something else:
LeBron: โMake that next step now.โ
Ant: โYou already know it.โ
LeBron: โCome on.โ
Ant: โI got you.โ
It was more than a handshake โ it felt like a passing of the torch.
Ant Called His Shot Weeks Ago โ And Delivered
Before the series even started, Anthony Edwards made headlines by embracing the challenge of facing LeBron.
โTrying to take him out of the playoffsโฆ I think weโre going to have fun.โ
Fast forward to Wednesday night, and he did just that โ helping the Wolves win the series 4โ1. While Edwards didnโt light up the scoreboard (15 PTS, 11 REB, 8 AST), he led with grit and poise โ showing LeBron-esque maturity when it mattered most.
Lakers Collapse, Wolves Rise
The Timberwolves outplayed the Lakers in nearly every facet after Game 1, powered by Rudy Gobertโs monster 27/24 line and Julius Randleโs clutch scoring. Meanwhile, Luka Donฤiฤโs 28-point effort and LeBronโs 22-point night werenโt enough to overcome Minnesotaโs dominance on the boards (54โ37) and defensive intensity.
Full series recap:
- Game 1: Wolves 117, Lakers 95
- Game 2: Lakers 94, Wolves 85
- Game 3: Wolves 116, Lakers 104
- Game 4: Wolves 116, Lakers 113
- Game 5: Wolves 103, Lakers 96
And just like that, LeBron is out โ but he leaves the court with class, sending a message to the leagueโs next great guard.
โI Got You.โ
Edwardsโ reply โ โI got youโ โ wasnโt just for LeBron. It was for every Timberwolves fan, every underdog believer, and maybe even himself.
Next up: the winner of Rockets vs. Warriors โ but Ant already has the Kingโs blessing. And that might be the real win of the night.
