LeBron ends his social media “hiatus” and he surely had a good reason for it
LeBron James delivered an impressive near triple-double performance on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Dallas Mavericks on their home court. Despite his 18-point contribution, highlighted by a thunderous dunk, along with 10 rebounds and eight assists, the Lakers fell to the Mavericks 118-97.
While James and his team battled on the court, emergency crews were engaged in an equally fierce struggle to contain wildfires raging on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The devastating fires, which loomed large over the city, weighed heavily on the minds of the Lakers’ players and coaching staff.
LeBron breaks his social media “silence”
On November 20, LeBron James announced he was stepping away from social media, citing the negativity he encountered on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) following the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Despite this pledge, James has remained active online, using his platforms to promote sponsorships and engage with trending sports discussions. On Wednesday, he returned to X to share a heartfelt message, expressing his prayers for the victims of the devastating wildfires near Los Angeles.
By Wednesday afternoon, the wildfires had claimed two lives, displaced over 30,000 residents, and ravaged more than 15,000 acres of land.
Thousands of businesses have been reduced to ashes as the flames continue their relentless spread. The LA County Fire Department, stretched thin on resources, faces an uphill battle against the growing inferno.
Lakers head coach J.J. Redick provided a glimpse into the emotional toll the wildfires have taken on his team during his post-game remarks on Tuesday night. His comments underscored the weight of LeBron James’ concise six-word social media post, which resonated deeply amidst a crisis that feels beyond anyone’s control.
“My family, my wife’s family, and even her twin sister have all evacuated,” Redick shared with reporters. “A lot of people are panicking right now, including my own family. It’s a frightening time for so many. I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers, absolutely, and I hope everyone stays safe.”
