Fans have wanted to see LeBron in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest for years and now they can see a glimpse of it
LeBron James, has achieved nearly every accolade available in his illustrious NBA career, except for participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Despite years of anticipation from fans, James had never taken part in this high-flying competition.
Recently, fulfilling a long-held wish of basketball enthusiasts, he entered the contest against some of the leagueโs top dunkers. While his participation was a dream come true for many, the outcome suggested that timing might not have been on his side.
LEBRON VS TOPPPIN
In a highly anticipated showdown, LeBron James faced off against Obi Toppin, the 2022 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion. Each athlete showcased three dunks, but it was clear from the outset who would emerge victorious. Toppin, known for escalating the complexity of his dunks, did not hold back, whereas LeBron seemed to ease off after his initial two attempts.
After completing a modest one-handed dunk on his final try, the 39-year-old Lakers star quipped, “I’m too old for this.” Facing a younger, dynamic dunker like Toppin, who is 13 years his junior, hardly seemed like an even match for LeBron. This mismatch left many of his fans longing for the days when a younger LeBron would have been a formidable contender against the leagueโs elite dunkers.
Social media reactions mirrored this sentiment. One of the top comments on Instagram nostalgically noted, “Bron getting old back in the day he would have killed Obi in a dunk contest.” Another fan humorously empathized with LeBron’s effort, commenting, “I just know that man’s legs are burning.”
