The Inter footballer was in the French capital where the Ballon d’Or was presented, and he was among the nominees, finished 20th in the process.
Speaking to the Argentine media, Lautaro Martinez, who is in Paris for the Ballon d’Or ceremony, talked about the possibility of Messi winning his 8th (before Messi won it): “We have to thank Leo for everything he has done for football. If he hadn’t lived in the same era as Cristiano Ronaldo, he would have won fifteen,” he said before the awards ceremony for ESPN.
Regarding his own nomination, the forward emphasized, “What matters is being present at the ceremony; the placement doesn’t matter for me. It’s important to be here as a player, which is beautiful and the ultimate achievement after winning the World Cup. These are small dreams that become reality.”
“Sometimes I think back of my time when I was a child. What I’m experiencing is the result of the work I’ve done day by day. We work for this, to achieve both group and personal goals. I’ve been fortunate to play in the two most important finals for a footballer. Now, my focus is on competing and taking Inter as high as possible and representing Argentina in the best way,” he added.
“Later on, he was also asked about a possible move to Real Madrid: ‘Of course, Real is a great club, a very important one, but I have chosen to continue with Inter. I have a contract here and my family is very happy in Milan. My thoughts are always focused on Inter.”
