On his day off from the competitions at the Paris Olympics, Kevin Durant spent some time on Twitter responding to various users who were suggesting the use of FIBA rules in the NBA.
Kevin Durant hit at all the USA Basketball haters with a clear message on twitter “I’ve been playing FIBA basketball for 15 years and I’ve seen some of the most disgusting flops of my career. Trying to draw favorable calls is a universal thing, not just an NBA thing. If you hate the way Americans play basketball, just say it.”
Kevin Durant has always had a very close relationship with Twitter, his favorite social networkโfor better or worse. On his day off from the Paris 2024 competitions, the three-time Olympic champion came across some tweets that didn’t sit well with him. As usual, he didn’t hesitate to respond to users who were calling for the NBA to adopt more FIBA rules, saying “that’s how basketball should be played.”
When Durant asked for explanations and was told that there are no flops in FIBA basketball, the two-time NBA champion shared his own experience to counter this idea: “I’ve been playing FIBA basketball for 15 years and I’ve seen some of the most disgusting flops ever. Trying to draw favorable calls is a universal thing, not just an NBA thing. You simply hate the way Americans play basketball, just admit it.”
Another user suggested more ball movement and fewer isolations, but KD had his own take on that as well: “The beauty of basketball is when plays aren’t called, but when you play instinctively and let talent dictate the game… going in transition, drive and kick, just playing ‘random’ basketball. You want a surprise play every time like it’s football. That’s not why our game is beautiful.”
When another user told him, “if you like street basketball so much, retire and go play in your neighborhood,” KD calmly replied: “Life is about balance. Even calling a play every possession doesn’t work in the end. Balance!!!”
