Kentucky high school student denied diploma after praising Jesus in his graduation speech

Micah Price, a Kentucky high school student, has not received his diploma after using his graduation speech to tell his classmates to find God.

During Campbell County High School’s commencement ceremony, Price deviated from his approved script. Dressed in a purple cap and gown, Price began by giving “the honor, the praise and the glory to my lord and savior Jesus Christ.”

This statement received enthusiastic applause. He then continued, “He is the light, he is the way, the truth and the life. If you don’t have any of those things in your life, my lord and savior is your answer.”

After the ceremony, Price posted on TikTok, revealing he had not received his diploma. “I don’t have a diploma. I’m not sure if everyone has theirs yet. So if you do, congrats. If you don’t, I’m right there with you,” he said. He admitted he had been told not to bring up Christ in his speech but chose to do so anyway.

WHAT THE SCHOOL IS SAYING

Superintendent Shelli Wilson told WKRC that Price’s principal had selected him to deliver the address. A brief portion of his speech praising Jesus Christ was approved, but Price was warned that deviating could have consequences. “All speakers were told that going off their submitted speech could have repercussions,” Wilson said.

Wilson confirmed that Price has graduated and will receive his diploma after meeting with the principal. “While many of us are proud of this young man’s beliefs and are practicing Christians ourselves, the principal has to consider the possibilities of students going off the planned program,” she added.

Price’s mother, Melonie Neely Farris, expressed pride in her son’s decision. In a Facebook video, she announced that her son is joining the Air Force. “Micah is called to share the love of Christ. That’s exactly what he did, and by the way I heard things, the entire audience loved it! We will face what comes his way, but we will never deny the love of Christ,” she said.
