LeBron James’ last-minute decision to sit out the 2025 NBA All-Star Game hasn’t just upset fans—it has also drawn criticism from ESPN analyst and former NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins.
The 14-year league veteran voiced his frustration on social media, calling out James for the timing of his announcement.
Perkins specifically pointed out that LA Clippers guard Norman Powell could have had the opportunity to make his first All-Star appearance if James had informed the league sooner. Expressing his disappointment, Perkins wrote,
“Could have said this earlier. Norman Powell could have made his first All-Star appearance. SMH.” His reaction echoes the frustration of many fans who believe that a replacement should have been named in James’ absence.
Norman Powell, 31, is having an impressive season, averaging 24.2 points per game while shooting 49.6% from the field, 42.8% from three, and 81.9% from the free-throw line.
Many fans already believed Powell deserved an All-Star selection, and had LeBron James announced his injury status a week earlier, the Clippers standout likely would have taken that final roster spot.
Meanwhile, as part of the revamped All-Star format, Shaq’s OGs will take on Candace Parker’s Rising Stars in the first round. However, they will have to do so without the presence of the Lakers superstar, whose absence has stirred controversy across the league.
