Kayla Nicole revisits breakup with Travis Kelce as his new chapter with Taylor Swift dominates headlines
Nearly three years after their final split, Kayla Nicole is once again addressing her past relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
During a recent TikTok Live conversation with “Love Island” personality Ace Greene, Nicole described the end of their romance in simple terms. “Who knows? Could be compatibility issues, right person, wrong time,” she said when asked why they went their separate ways. The exchange was first reported by TMZ.
Nicole also confirmed that her last serious relationship ended about three years ago, aligning with her May 2022 breakup from Kelce after a five-year on-again, off-again relationship. “Probably, like, three years ago now. It’s been a long time,” she said when asked about her dating life.
The renewed attention comes as Kelce enters a highly visible new chapter with global pop star Taylor Swift. Less than 18 months after his split from Nicole, Kelce invited Swift to watch the Chiefs face the Chicago Bears. Their relationship quickly became one of the most discussed crossovers between professional sports and entertainment.
Multiple outlets, including People, reported that Kelce and Swift became engaged in August 2025 after roughly two years together. The couple is reportedly planning a wedding expected to take place in Rhode Island this summer.
From NFL dominance to cultural spotlight
Kelce’s career has continued to flourish during this period. According to official NFL statistics, he has surpassed 10,000 career receiving yards and recorded multiple 1,000-yard seasons — rare achievements for a tight end. He has also played a central role in the Chiefs’ three Super Bowl victories during the franchise’s modern dynasty era.
Since beginning his relationship with Swift in 2023, Kelce’s public profile has expanded well beyond football. Broadcast coverage frequently showed Swift at Arrowhead Stadium, and analysts at ESPN and Sports Business Journal noted measurable increases in female viewership during games she attended.
Neither Kelce nor Swift has publicly responded to Nicole’s recent comments. The Chiefs organization has maintained its consistent policy of not commenting on players’ personal relationships.

Nicole’s remarks also follow criticism she received earlier this month for appearing in a Super Bowl advertisement for the fantasy sports app Sleeper. The ad, which starred comedian Tiffany Haddish and NBA player Ben Simmons, included references identifying Nicole as the “Ex of a certain NFL player.”
Some viewers took to social media to criticize her involvement. “Don’t you think it’s way past time to move on?” one user wrote on X. Another posted, “I’m convinced she doesn’t have any friends cuz my friends wouldn’t let me crash out like this after 4 years.”
Meanwhile, fans have speculated that Swift addressed the situation through her music. On her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, listeners pointed to lyrics in the track “Opalite,” including the lines: “You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone and you were just a pose.”
As Kelce prepares for another season with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, and Nicole continues building her brand in media and fitness, the past relationship remains a talking point in a much larger narrative that now blends professional sports with global pop culture.
