The Oscar winner said she and her husband, actor and director Christopher Guest, and their children had pledged $1 million to support “our great city and state and the great people who live there.”
As wildfires continue to devastate Southern California, Los Angeles City Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley described the crisis as “one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of Los Angeles.” Amid the chaos, some prominent figures are stepping up to provide much-needed support.
On Thursday, Jamie Lee Curtis announced that she and her family are donating $1 million to wildfire relief efforts. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Curtis shared her commitment to aiding those affected by the disaster.
“With the fires still raging and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment, along with countless first responders and agencies, tirelessly fighting to protect lives and property, my husband, our children, and I are stepping in to help,” Curtis wrote. “From our Family Foundation, we have pledged $1 million to establish a support fund for our beloved city, state, and the amazing people who call it home.“
The generous donation underscores a powerful message of solidarity as neighbors and communities rally together to face this unprecedented disaster.
Jamie Lee Curtis Reflects on the Destruction of Her Beloved Church
Jamie Lee Curtis later shared an update, revealing that her neighborhood “is gone,” though her house remains standing. Among the losses was a local church in the Pacific Palisades, which held deep significance to her.
“The church,” she explained, “had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship and is the building that I got sober in 25 years ago.” She continued, “I think of all of the souls who came there for comfort and solace and all the baptisms and funerals and weddings and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through Sobriety. Also, the women’s club in the Palisades, where I met many sober people. Both are gone. Tough times. We will persevere. God bless you all.”
