LeBron James continues to dominate the NBA, but not everyone appreciates his greatness.
At 40 years old, James remains a powerhouse on the court.
In February, he took his game to another level, averaging 29.3 points per contest and guiding the Lakers to a 9-2 record. His stellar performances also propelled him into the top five of the NBA MVP race for the season.
Foxx Defends LeBron Against Critics
Jamie Foxx stepped in to defend James after an Instagram post listed some criticisms of the NBA star.
Jumping into the comment section, Foxx passionately backed James, calling out the negativity.
“For 20 years, he’s scored 40,000 points while carrying this ungrateful league on his back.”
“If he discovered a cure for cancer, people would still ask, ‘Yeah, but what about diabetes?’” Foxx wrote.
LeBron’s Name Drives Media Attention
Foxx also argued that those who criticize LeBron do so to benefit from his status.
“You need to mention LeBron James just to get views,” he said.
His comments come at a fitting time, as James recently called out the media for how they cover the NBA, particularly their focus on negativity surrounding the league’s biggest stars.
James Questions the Burden of Being the NBA’s Face
During All-Star weekend, James reflected on the idea of being the “face of the league,” particularly in response to Anthony Edwards’ reluctance to embrace that role.
“It’s unfortunate, but why would you want to be the face of the league when the people who cover and discuss our game every day constantly tear players down?” James said.
“Having that responsibility just feels strange. It’s an odd vibe.”
