Spalletti’s team is in the midst of the continental competition as three matches remain before the verdicts.
Italy, after the victory against Malta, is in second place in Group C of the European qualifying matches with equal points (10) as Ukraine but with one game less than the competition (England is leading with +3 points ahead).
The 2 top teams in each group, qualify directly, while the eight best third-placed teams will compete in playoffs in March, along with the two teams that performed best in the last edition of the Nations League.
It’s worth noting that if Italy finishes outside the top two spots in the group, they will still play in the playoffs, as they are semifinalists in the Nations League. The format? First, a semifinal, and then a final, as was the case in the World Cup playoffs that Mancini missed while in charge.
Italy and the path to the Euros
There are still three matches to go until the end of the European qualification. Italy is in the running for a spot. The upcoming match against England is crucial, scheduled for October 17th at Wembley, which could potentially put them in the lead with 13 points. Spalletti’s Azzurri will wrap up the group, facing North Macedonia at home in mid-November and then Ukraine on neutral ground in Leverkusen.
