Inzaghi: “I am happy with everyone today. It is not the time to be sad, now we should smile.”

The Inter coach, after the 0-0 draw in the Champions League against Real Sociedad, stated, “We should have capitalized on our opportunities, we had the best chances to win the match.”

Inter finishes their group stage as second in Champions League Group D, but Simone Inzaghi remains undeterred after the draw against Real Sociedad. While acknowledging that the draw will be tough, the coach denies that the club’s strategy prioritizes Serie A and the pursuit of a second star:

“This perception is wrong. We played an excellent game and finished the group undefeated. We wanted to finish first, but we need to consider the quality of our opponents. We had two clear chances and should have capitalized better. We knew we would have to endure challenges, and we covered the field well. Credit to Real Sociedad, who are an excellent team.”

The truth is that Inter had an opportunity to secure a seeding advantage for the Round of 16, which is now missed. Inzaghi is keen on maintaining optimism after these fantastic initial months of the season:

“We knew that finishing second would result in a tougher draw. But it’s not the time to be sad… I want to see smiles, not long faces. For the third consecutive season, we’re in the Round of 16, and last year, finishing second, we reached the final.

Thuram started, but not Lautaro? These were my choices. It’s December, and we have time to reach July. Lautaro and Barella are players who have consistently played a lot between club and national team. I am also satisfied with Sanchez and Arnautovic; they are contributing. It’s normal that their condition may not be the best; they have played less than others, but they are on the rise.”
