Inter coach after the 1-1 draw in the Champions League season debut: “In the first half, we really struggled; Real Sociedad is an excellent team. I have a large squad to utilize.”
Such an unimpressive performance from Inter wasn’t expected. There were no signs of their Serie A form, while Lautaro Martinez‘s equalizer makesthings less complex, though it doesn’t erase the negative aspects that Simone Inzaghi analyzed after the match:
“We faced a strong opponent,” the coach explained, “but we did well to stay in the game after a poor first half. It was our debut this season and it is what it is, and we’ll take this point. We’ve seen firsthand that Real Sociedad is an excellent team.”
Inzaghi continued his remarks from Reale Arena: “Many changes on the field? The players have been playing a lot, and many were tired after the international break. In the first half, we struggled all the time, and I didn’t make many changes compared to the derby.
Sommer really helped us stay in the game. I have a large squad to utilize, and we need to make very careful assessments. I would have liked to give more players a chance, but some of them weren’t in the best condition. After a derby like that (5-1 win against Milan this weekend), I believe this was a good result for us.”
