Inter, From Onana to Sommer: the numbers are clear: the leap in quality is DOUBLED!

The comparison between the two goalkeepers favors the Swiss, who boasts better statistics than his counterpart both in his previous Nerazzurri campaing and in his current one at Manchester.

From Onana to Sommer, Inter can say they’ve hit a 360-degree jackpot. A quick comparison between the two goalkeepers after the initial part of the season would reveal that one is doing really great while the other is really struggling.

If there were any doubts about the ex Bayern goalkeeper move to Inter this summer, it can be said that the numbers and the 16 games played so far have completely reversed any negative judgments and considerations.

With the โ‚ฌ50 million made from Onana’s sale, Inter has not only realized a gigantic capital gain that allowed them to finance their transfer-market but has also made a significant technical upgrade (according to the stats) for only โ‚ฌ6 million.

In these first 4 months of the season, Sommer seems to be Inter’s most stable element of the defence, with the team dealing with few injuries. But compared to the previous year’s, Inter’s defence is even more fortified than it was in the time of Onana.

This is a consequence of greater overall solidity on the field but also of the timely interventions by the Swiss goalkeeper. Not surprisingly, he boasts a significantly better statistics than the Cameroonian, he beats Onana in comparison with in his previous Nerazzurri campaing and (especially) in the current one.

DIRECT COMPARISON

To rewind the tape about 12 months ago when Onana had recently replaced Handanovic in the league after quickly assuming the role of the Champions League starter. The Cameroonian had impressed with good performances in the cup, and was called upon to replace a no longer infallible Handanovic.

However, despite the absence of major blunders, in the first 16 appearances with Onana in goal, Inter had conceded 18 goals, 11 of which came in the first ten league matches, achieving only 7 clean sheets.

On the other hand the 34-year-old Swiss goalkeeper has done much better, conceding just 8 goals in his first 16 appearances in Nerazzurri colors (10 less than Onana). Compared to Onana, Sommer has conceded half the goals in the first twelve league matches, keeping a total of 10 clean sheets.

The comparison between the two is particularly harsh in the current season, where Onana has so far conceded almost four times the goals conceded by Sommer (30 against 8).

The conclusion of all of this can be only one: Giuseppe Marotta knows what he’s doing, this man can really do magic. He brought Onana for free, sold him for โ‚ฌ50M then bought Sommer for โ‚ฌ6 and now Sommer seems to be just insane. The true winner is Marotta.
