INCREDIBLE, OFFICIAL: Walter Mazzarri to return as the new Napoli head coach

The Livornese will embrace the Azzurri again after 10 years; the departure of the French coach is also announced.

“Welcome back, Walter.” This is how the Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis officially announced the return of Mazzarri to Napoli on his official X profile. The contract is going to be until the end of the season, with Igor Tudor now out of the race, who had long been considered the favorite after Rudi Garcia’s dismissal.

The Frenchman was simultaneously bid farewell with a cold note on the website:

“The Societร  Sportiva Calcio Napoli has decided to revoke the position of technical manager of the first team from Mr. Rudi Garcia. Thanks to him and his staff for the collaboration provided until today.”

The Azzurri’s patron wanted a caretaker, and that’s what happened: an agreement set until June 30, 2024. In the summer, barring sensational twists, the Livornese coach will bid farewell, initiating a new cycle.

This marks the second adventure for Walter Mazzarri under the Vesuvius; the first, successful, was crowned with the lifting of the Coppa Italia in the 2011-2012 season and Champions League comeback after many years.

The goal is to forget Rudi Garcia, who leaves Napoli in fourth place in the standings with three losses in twelve games. Not to mention the Champions League and the almost secured spot in the round of 16.

The Frenchman will still receive 2.8 million euros, the money stipulated by the contract for one season. Igor Tudor, who arrived in Rome yesterday to meet De Laurentiis, is for now out of the picture.
