Even Ben Affleck had to change Thanksgiving plans to comfort Jennifer Garner over painful loss
Jennifer Garner shared a heartfelt message on social media to say goodbye to her golden retriever, Birdie, who was much more than just a pet. The actress revealed that Birdie passed away after a visit to the vet, where it was determined that nothing more could be done as she had reached the end of her life.
Garner expressed her gratitude to Birdie, calling her “the best dog in the world.”
โItโs hard to know how to write thisโit feels strange, considering everything happening in the world, to mourn a pet. But since weโve shared Birdie with all of you, it feels right to let you know of her passing,โ Garner wrote on Instagram.
The family first noticed something was wrong last week when Birdie, who was known for being a foodie and never missing a meal, suddenly stopped eating. Concerned, they took her to the vet.
โWe were shocked to learn that not only was she very sick, but that she was at the end of her life,โ Garner shared.
Before saying goodbye, there was one last important thing for Birdie to doโshe needed to bid farewell to one of her favorite people.
Through her emotional post, Garner honored the deep bond she shared with Birdie and allowed her followers to join in celebrating the life of a cherished companion.
“The vet told us that dogs often wait until their person comes back,” Garner said, referring to her eldest daughter, Violet Anne Affleck (18).
“One of their favorite things to do together was read,” the actress shared.
“She showed a video on Instagram where they are lounging on the sofa while Garner reads Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig. Both Birdie and Garner wore reading glasses in the sweet clip.
‘She lived a happy dog’s life and is now in the role she was born for: a little angel. It is a gift to love and be loved by a creature like Birdie,’ she concluded.”

โJennifer is in a lot of pain, and Ben has said he would be happy to spend time with her over Thanksgiving,โ the source revealed. The reunion is expected to include their children, allowing the family to come together during this tough period.
While Affleckโs presence might create tension between Garner and her current partner, businessman John Miller, sources indicate that Garnerโs focus is elsewhere. โThereโs a risk that spending the holiday with Ben could upset John,โ the insider explained. โBut Jennifer is so heartbroken over Birdieโs death that sheโs prioritizing her emotions over potential conflicts.โ
