After months of delays and a legal dispute, the first episode of “The Chosen” Season Four will premiere on the showโs app at 7 p.m. Eastern this Sunday.
Dallas Jenkins, the creator, producer, and director, announced the release, stating, โThe wait is finally over. The response from those whoโve seen Season 4 in theaters was that this is our best season.โ
The app release was delayed due to legal matters. Season Four had premiered in theaters in February 2024, with all eight episodes released at a discounted price during Easter week. “The Chosen” will now release two new episodes weekly on Sundays and Thursdays throughout June. DVDs are also available, allowing viewers to watch all episodes at once.
The legal dispute involved The Chosen LLC and its former partner, Angel Studios. Initially responsible for the show’s distribution, Angel Studios and The Chosen LLC had differing interpretations of their contract. Jenkins explained that the pay-it-forward model from Angel Studios wouldn’t meet the show’s goals. Only 40 percent of contributions went to The Chosen LLC, with the rest going to marketing and Angel Studios.
To secure the show’s future, The Chosen LLC entered a new agreement with Angel Studios in 2022, incorporating the Come and See Foundation. This led to the creation of a new Chosen app dedicated solely to the series. However, Jenkins claimed Angel Studios breached the contract multiple times, leading to a third-party arbitration. The arbitrator sided with The Chosen LLC, ending their relationship with Angel Studios.
For now, Season Four will be available only on the Chosen app before being released on other platforms. Lionsgate, which handles distribution to platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Peacock, remains unaffected.
Fans can look forward to new episodes of “The Chosen” starting this Sunday.
