High school seniors bear the casket of a Air Force veteran that has no family

A touching gesture of honor and respect was recently observed in Louisiana as a group of compassionate high school seniors came forward to ensure that a retired US Air Force veteran received a dignified farewell. Ralph Lambert, who served his country for over two decades, passed away at the age of 94 without any family or friends to attend his funeral.

Upon learning about Lambert’s situation, Jordan Marks, a local high school baseball coach, took it upon himself to organize a meaningful tribute. Marks enlisted six seniors from Menard High School, Ashton Veade, Cameron Kinder, Jacob Giordano, Jackson Ford, Ashton Brodnax, and Hunter Foster, to participate in the funeral proceedings and carry Lambert’s flag-draped casket.

Coach Marks emphasized that beyond teaching baseball skills, he strives to impart valuable life lessons to his students. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to honor a veteran who dedicated his life to serving the country.

“I try to teach them the game of baseball but also the game of life, and anytime we can serve a community member or especially somebody that served for our country, we are more than happy to do it,” Marks told KALB.

During the funeral at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, the six seniors respectfully carried Lambert’s casket, acknowledging the privilege of being part of a ceremony that symbolized gratitude and remembrance. Despite not having known Lambert personally, they felt honored to pay their respects to a fellow citizen who had no immediate family or friends.

“It was an honor for us, seniors, to be able to go out there, especially with somebody with no family and friends,” Jacob Giordano told KALB.

โ€œI felt sorry, and I just am glad that we got the opportunity to go out there,โ€ said Cameron Kinder. โ€œWe all have our family and friends, but I think we fail to realize that somebody out there doesnโ€™t have that.โ€

This heartwarming act reflects a broader concern regarding veterans who pass away without anyone to commemorate their service. Organizations like the Missing in American Project actively work to identify and honor unclaimed veterans, ensuring they receive the rightful recognition and farewell they deserve.

The touching tribute orchestrated by these compassionate high school seniors serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of honoring and remembering those who served their country, even in their final moments.
