He won. Or at least, he is winning. And Juventus couldn’t be happier. Because Weston McKennie was on his way out of the Bianconeri project, and now he is about to extend his contract.
The American Weston McKennie was long on the market, then finally sold to Leeds in January with an operation that seemed to guarantee almost โฌ40 million after a loan that was actually almost free: all that was needed was Leeds’ survival. And that didn’t happen, significantly downsizing McKennie’s considerations with that disappointing half-season from every point of view.
However, he remained on the market, and later he was included in the list of players outside the technical project by Juventus further degrading him. Then something changed because, at the time of his summer arrival in Turin, circumstances led coach Max Allegri to need him for the duration of the summer tour while waiting to recover all the injured players.
However, McKennie seized this opportunity as well as he could. He made himself available to Allegri, even accepted the possibility of being transformed into a right-winger, followed a 360-degree (including dietary) preparation regime to the letter. And in the end, with the market never offering an offer worthy of the valuation imposed by the Giuntoli-Manna duo, he stayed. And he stayed as a protagonist.
THE NEW CONTRACT
Now everything is changed, the player is virtually always present, always in top form. Whenever needed he can become an extra midfielder, and when needed a wingback. This is how McKennie forcefully regained a place in the Juventus project.
Because his contract expiring on June 30, 2025, is now too tempting an opportunity for anyone who would like to take him away from Turin again. Instead, Juventus has found the true McKennie and would like to assure his permanency in ‘bianconero’. That’s what Juventus wants to do, and according to ‘Calciomercato’ theyhave already communicated this to his agents.
A new meeting is scheduled in the coming weeks, and negotiations can intensify shortly with an extension for a couple of more seasons in sight. In short, McKennie has regained Juventus.”
