Even after two-plus decades,ย LeBronย sets a high standard. Everyone amazed in Paris
No matter what opinions you hold about LeBron James and his impact on the Los Angeles Lakers in recent years, there’s no denying that as his career approaches its twilight, he remains a top-tier attraction and a dominant force on the basketball court.
At 39, James continues to set high standards for himself and his teammates. This will be particularly evident at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris. On a Team USA roster filled with talent, James continues to shine brightly, even in front of a head coach who has yet to experience working with him.
Steve Kerr just loves him
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is stepping up to lead Team USA this summer. After years of devising strategies to counter LeBron James, Kerr now faces the challenge of harnessing James’s talents for what is likely his final Olympics.
Following just one day of practice, Kerr is already amazed by LeBron’s relentless drive and commitment, setting the bar high by giving his all in training sessions.
“Is this typical?” Kerr inquired of assistants Ty Lue and Erik Spoelstra, both of whom have had the privilege of coaching LeBron in the NBA. Their response was unanimous: “Every day.”
After facing off against Kerr’s Warriors in the NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018, LeBron James now finds himself under Kerr’s guidance and, for the first time, alongside Golden State point guard Stephen Curry. Motivated by missing the past two Olympic Games, LeBron is determined to secure one more gold medalโhis thirdโand is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it.
“My game adapts to whatever the team needs,” James told reporters on Saturday. “If the game requires me to score in bunches, I can do that. If it calls for high assists, I can provide that as well. I always strive to have my game ready and prepare for whatever the situation and the team demand at that moment.”
