Pep Guardiola won the Champions League with Manchester City, defeating Inter in the last year’s finals, and on the eve of the new season’s debut in the competition, he wanted to revisit the Istanbul match, praising the opponent:
“Look at what Inter did to Milan this weekend (refering to the 5-1 victory). People thought it will be easy, I always knew we would face an incredibly strong team that day.” For Guardiola, Simone Inzaghi‘s Inter should not be underestimated even this season: “The Nerazzurri can definitely return to the final this year.”
“I’ve always known that Inter is very strong, and in the final against us, they made it clear, giving us a tough time. Our victory was hard-fought, and luck was on our side.”
Then, the praise: “I have the feeling that Inter is one of the contenders to return to the Champions League final. They were very competitive in Istanbul.”
