Girl, 7, among at least six dead as Mississippi shooting revealed to be family targeted rampage

New and disturbing details have emerged in the Mississippi mass shooting that left at least six people dead Friday night, including a 7-year-old girl. Authorities say the suspected gunman was related to several of the victims and allegedly targeted multiple family residences.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott identified the suspect as Daricka M. Moore, a 24-year-old man. The shootings unfolded across three locations in the rural Cedarbluff area, west of the county seat of West Point.

Officials confirmed that four of the victims were related to Moore, indicating that the shootings involved members of the same family.

Child Victim Found With Gunshot Wound to Head

Among the victims was a 7-year-old girl, identified as Moore’s second cousin. Authorities said the child was found with a gunshot wound to the head, marking one of the most horrifying aspects of the case.

Investigators said another young child and the child’s mother were also inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Sheriff Scott told reporters it remains unclear whether the weapon misfired or whether the child was intentionally shot at close range. That detail remains under active investigation.

Three Homes, One Deadly Path

According to authorities, Moore allegedly began the rampage at a residence on David Hill Road, where three people were killed.

He then traveled to a second home on Blake Road, where additional victims were targeted. After the shootings, Moore allegedly fled the area in a stolen pickup truck, continuing the violent spree.

At a third location, investigators found two men dead, both with gunshot wounds to the head. They were later identified as Barry Bradley and Samuel Bradley.

Law enforcement intercepted Moore shortly afterward and took him into custody without further incident.

Suspect Faces Capital Murder Possibility

Moore was booked into the Clay County Jail before dawn Saturday. Court records show he currently faces a first-degree murder charge, which authorities say could be upgraded to capital murder as the investigation continues.

Clay County District Attorney Scott Colom said the death penalty is actively being considered.

“This is the type of case where the death penalty is going to have to be really looked at,” Colom said. Mitigation experts and mental health evaluations will be part of the legal process before a final charging decision is made.

Moore’s first court appearance is scheduled for January 12. Online court records indicate he has no prior criminal history.

Community Reeling, Motive Unknown

Authorities have not identified a motive for the killings.

“At this point, we do not know a motive for these acts,” Sheriff Scott said, emphasizing that the investigation remains ongoing.

West Point and surrounding Clay County communities remain in shock as details continue to emerge about one of the most severe family-related shooting cases in the area.

Law enforcement officials say more information will be released as detectives work to reconstruct the suspect’s movements. Investigators are also trying to determine what led to the deadly night that claimed multiple lives, including that of a young child.
