Georgia toddler mauled to death by babysitter’s Rottweilers after she allegedly fell asleep for two hours

A Georgia community is heartbroken after a two-year-old boy was mauled to death by his babysitter’s Rottweilers when she allegedly took a nap and left him unattended for hours, police said.

Police identified the victim as Kaimir Jones, a playful toddler described by his mother as her “entire world.” Authorities say he was killed on October 4 in the backyard of an unlicensed daycare run by 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb in Valdosta, Georgia.

According to investigators, Cobb had been caring for Kaimir that morning when she allegedly fell asleep for at least two hours, leaving the boy unsupervised. During that time, Kaimir reportedly wandered into the backyard, opened the kennel where two large Rottweilers were kept, and was fatally attacked.

2-year-old Kaimir Jones was remembered as a joyful and playful boy.

“This is a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred,” said Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan, adding that the boy’s death was the result of “negligence on this offender’s behalf.”

The horrifying discovery

When emergency responders arrived at Cobb’s home on Pecan Drive, they found Kaimir dead in the yard. Cobb allegedly told officers she had been napping and believed the toddler was asleep too.

Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, now faces second-degree murder charges.

The boy’s mother, Adrianna Jones, said she knew something was wrong after Cobb, who normally sent regular updates, stopped responding to her messages for three hours. She left work early and rushed to the house, only to find police and investigators already on scene.

“This was a heartbreaking, devastating, and traumatizing scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” Adrianna wrote on a GoFundMe page. “I found my baby like this.”

She added that she had no idea Cobb owned Rottweilers and said the daycare had come “highly recommended.”

Kaimir’s life was tragically cut short in a heartbreaking backyard attack.

Felony charges filed

Cobb was taken into custody at the scene and later booked on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children, according to jail records. The two Rottweilers involved in the attack, along with a third dog in the home, were seized by animal control.

Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, says she’s fighting for justice for her son.

Police confirmed that Cobb’s daycare was not licensed, and that she faces additional investigations for operating illegally.

Community mourning and national concern

Adrianna’s fundraiser, created to cover her son’s funeral expenses, has surpassed $14,000, with hundreds of people offering prayers and condolences.

The tragedy has also reignited concern about fatal dog attacks across the country. According to DogsBite.org, 63 people were killed by dogs in 2023, the highest total since 2005. Children made up nearly a quarter of those deaths. Rottweilers and pit bulls accounted for three-quarters of all fatal attacks since 2005.

As Adrianna prepares to bury her only child, she says she’s still struggling to process the unimaginable. “He was my everything,” she wrote. “I just want justice for Kaimir.”
