George Stephanopoulos and wife Ali welcome a new family member weeks after devastating loss.

Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos and his wife, actress, comedian, and writer Ali Wentworth, shared a heartwarming surprise earlier this summer that came on the heels of a deeply emotional goodbye.

The couple welcomed a new puppy into their lives, introducing viewers to an adorable Labrador named Fig. In a sweet video shared online, George and Ali beam as they cradle the newest member of the Stephanopoulos family.

“Meet Fig! Say hello to the newest member of @gstephanopoulos and @therealaliwentworth’s family,” the post read. Fans were quick to swoon over the pup. “She’s adorable!!” gushed one follower, while another praised her “beautiful face” and “chill temperament.”

A bittersweet moment after a painful goodbye

The joy came just months after George and Ali suffered the devastating loss of their beloved dog Cooper.

In May, shortly after the couple celebrated their daughter Elliott’s graduation from Brown University, Ali shared an emotional tribute to her longtime companion, calling him “the greatest dog and integral part of our family.” She fondly recalled Cooper’s quirks, from chasing a giant elk into a pond to stealing Christmas candy and remembered how he “kissed and cuddled everyone who came through our door.”

“I will miss him with all my heart,” she wrote. “See you on the other side, Coop! We still have many squirrels to chase.”

A family rooted in love

George and Ali’s love story began with a traditional Greek wedding in 2001 at New York’s Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, officiated by George’s father. Ali has often shared fond memories of their reception, from Greek dancing to seeing their loved ones, from legendary director Mike Nichols to an 8-year-old flower girl, joining arms in celebration.

The couple share two daughters: Elliott, who recently graduated from Brown University, and Harper, a student at Vanderbilt.

With Fig now part of the family, the Stephanopouloses are embracing a new chapter filled with wagging tails, puppy cuddles, and a reminder that love has the power to heal.
