Gabriel Pitzulo conveyed a message to young men after the incident at a Subway in Indianapolis
Caught on store surveillance video, the incident involved the attacker throwing something at an employee and spitting on her. Responding swiftly, Pitzulo tackled the suspect and restrained him until bystanders secured the premises and called the police.
Reflecting on the altercation, Pitzulo remarked that it was unsettling, with a brief exchange of words lasting about three minutes until law enforcement arrived.
Upon the police’s arrival, Pitzulo assisted in handcuffing the suspect, earning gratitude and praise from the officers for his brave actions.
While working as a welder, Pitzulo had not previously considered a career in law enforcement. However, he acknowledged discussions about potential opportunities stemming from his intervention in apprehending the alleged attacker.
Expressing his motivation for sharing his story, Pitzulo emphasized the importance of standing up for innocent people in the community, particularly in light of discussions surrounding toxic masculinity.
The suspect, Daniel Saunders, faced charges including battery injury, battery resulting in bodily harm, and disorderly conduct as per police records.
Pitzulo’s family expressed pride in his actions, noting his father’s background as a professional cage fighter.
